Iain Lee

Post by Crusty Bra »

I'm massively looking forward to this. Unjustly sacked by the BBC, but now on late nights on a national platform. Now I can opt for Iain when I do a long drive back after performing a gig. The preview podcasts are very promising and he gleefully cites "Muslims and immigration" as the tired tedious issues that speech stations should rightfully avoid.

He was always too good for the BBC. Read good as innovative/challenging/unpredictable. Quite a few times over the last couple of years I've imagined his bosses squirming while we listeners hooted with delight.

I've never warmed to the fella, Im afraid. Just a wee bit too much of the sneery school snide about him. Just a personal view. He cant be anything near as bad as most of the other criminal parasites that they employ.

I did not like him on the dreadful 10 O'Clock Show. Very sneery back then, full of that awful 'punching down' humour that low-rent comedians came out with.

Then I saw him present a documentary on old computer games on E4 - Thumb Candy. It was absolutely superb, he showed off his knowledge and enthusiasm. A total turnaround. Such a great thing to watch.

I wasn't fully in the 3CR area to enjoy his much feted radio stuff, but I've got a DAB radio in the car and so the talkRADIO stuff should keep me entertained on long drives back.

I'm with you on this one Bazwell I've never had the chance to warm to him either, saying that though I haven't even heard him doing his own show ever I've only heard him in YouTube clips. I know he's a crusty sod if you upset him cos as I've previously said he came on da Diggy Spy talkSPOWERT thread gunning for some of us because we had the temerity on a free speech website to pick faults with one of his best pals Mr Matthew Forde ESQ the ex Labour Party political researcher, radio presenter, comedian, stage impressionist and TV newspaper annalist.

I'm going to give him a month to judge him right.

His old Absolute show was mostly nonsense, I had to be in the mood so mostly podcasted it. One thing I did find slightly tiresome was Iain's 'trademark' trick of leaving two callers to talk to one another for several minutes - he did this from time to time on 3CR. Having said that I think he was very entertaining in his role at the BBC, where there was a lot more structure to the show and allowed him to get stuck into some important issues. The 'classic bants' with producers and station staff worked brilliantly too. I'm hoping that his new show isn't too bonkers.

I am looking forward to seeing what he will be like on this new station.
Think he was not utilised to his best at the breakfast slot but back in the evening is where is has always been at his best.

It looks like at least some of the bants are going to be following him:

I think he has quite a bit more depth to his presenting style than Vaughan.
