As long as the curvature of the ball is level with the quadrant line it doesn't have to be touching.

Same principle for leading up to the Japan goal, the curvature if the ball had not passed beyond the goal line.

I can never understand why those few extra mms are so needed especially if the player can't even get it over the first defender.
