I'm fine, ovech. Read you posts in other threads and hope all sorts itself out soon. :smt023

Good old Bill. You never seen him on 'Googlebox' under the picture of the tits?:

Always remember Bil from 'Play Chess' on BBC. Found this: https://www.face book.com/tvark.org/videos/school-holidays-always-meant-play-chess-with-bill-hartston-this-clip-is-from-chr/1924733397568351/ Copy the link and join face book as video not linking.

But remember the theme music as 'Dance of the Knights' from 'Romeo and Juliet':

As Prokofiev was a chess fan. Here are games v two of the greats, big fan of old Capablanca:

GM Evgenij Miroshnichenko, err yay an Ukranian and WIM Jesse February on comms on day 4 of the third World Chess Grand Prix, which sorts out the candidates places.

Lovely comms. And tie brieaks. Will Naka qualifty or those in tie breaks beat him. Looking at maths, they could. Naka is to be hunted down.

He will get hunted down, which is is a shame as a great err youtuber: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCweCc7 ... jEH7HFImng 1.24M subscribers. And a half player, half streamer and still world class over the board.

Lovely to see you about Carlos. Murray Head and from the musical Chess....

Sergei Sergeyevich was a very keen player. Kept score of all his games and read the latest innovations. A wonderful man although could be distant and aloof and of course from the erstwhile rebel tamed as a formalist by Stalins ASCAP. A great composer.

Computer Chess, a dark comedic film that appears to be a documentary but is a study of the psyche. Quite painful but true to human nature.

Candidates tournament starts on Friday. 8 men in a double round robin to see who plays Magnus for the World Chess Championship 2023.

Most interest will be on how young Alireza Firouzja and Naka returning to over the board do.

Will be coverage on most chess sites and youtube channels, will post up some links next week. All the info on players and format here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidate ... ament_2022

Wasn't going to comment until halfway. But the game everyone wanted to see a couple of days ago, Firoujza v Nakamura, lived up to and surpassed expections. This is fantastic and a draw.

Fair play to agadmator, reap that coin in, 236k views, nice:

Dear Naka, reviewing his own games after in minute detail gets 377k views and fair play. This is like a player in a world cup game giving a 20 minute review of his performance after every game. Unbelieveable:

The games have been very entertaining. Coverage with Gusty, Howell, Polgar ok but Polgar tends to talk over people. Magnus has joined commentary on a couple tho and it's been great. Round 7 starting in a bit.

chess.com are also doing commentary with Hess, Rensch and someone else.

Indeed good stuff so far, eg. Been mostly watching chess.com. Liked Rensch, Hess and Fabi at the WC last year. It's WGM Almira Skripchenko with them, though Rensch wasn't on yesterday.

And to the action. Now 11/14 rounds done and the table is:

Image

So Nepo on the brink of victory and winning his second consecutive candidates. But a big game today at 2pm against Naka who has black. Naka will go all out for the win. [-o<

Other interesting things are the performance of the new bright young thing Firouzja bottom of the table, though he was apparently playing bullet chess most of the night before yesterdays game: https://www.chess.com/news/view/2022-fi ... t-round-11

And that Magnus has said "he would not defend his title unless the challenger was Alireza Firouzja". If Nepo wins, would Magnus want to play him again, after the bashing he gave Nepo last year?

If he does forfeit, then the top two will play for the World Championship next year, which means Naka will go all out as per today and then in his final round game v Ding.

Fun times ahead.

And lo after that hype, a draw in I think 14 moves. Interesting interview on chess.com youtube with Naka after, still hoping for second place and the focusing on the final game v Ding.

It all turned out to be a bit of an anti climax :(

Good job from Naka tho. Caruana crumbles yet again.

And still but sadly lost to Ding in the final round.

Here's Naka on the quick draw v Nepo and as he says, he doubts Magnus will not play, but keeps his options open:

And needing a draw in the final round to come second, his loss to Ding. Got to love the honesty:

Congrats to Nepo winning.

So Nepo v Magnus again next year. Or not. He will play, beat Nepo and Firouzja will be better in a couple of years.

But vamos Naka.
