Camden

Post by theleader82 »

Is Camden worth visiting for a day out or long weekend? I've never been before. I've heard there's lots of cool little independent shops selling strange things and nice pubs. Is it a bit overrated? I wasn't sure if it would be full of poser types

NO. If you want to go, just get the tube and wander around for an hour or two, it gets very tiresome. Same with Brick Lane. See if you must, but there are probably better places to visit ... Liverpool Street Station Toilets for example, aways a winner for me, 20p entry though.

Agree with Carc. You can see Camden in an afternoon.

It's good to go late afternoon and catch a band later on. Not sure there's enough to warrant much more time than that.

Why not do Camden and Brick lane on the same day, both are much the same if that's your thing, get some bang bang chicken in Camden and a Bagel or visit the food porn court in Brick lane washed down with a few pints in either brewdog bar.

Good memories of Camden and that area. Seeing bands at the Roundhouse, and the leccy Ballroom.
The Dublin Castle was/is good for live music.
It's deffo worth a mooch around...having said that it's a few years since I was last there.
Depends what you want..Browsing the stalls, having a beer or two, plenty of decent places to eat...

Camden is my idea of hell.

It is a magnet for arseholes, overgrown students, middle-class slummers and thousands of tourists who must have been told it's a vibrant edgy place.

There's a pie and mash shop by Camden Road station that's worth a visit (assuming they can actually be arsed to open the shop, and haven't run out of pies  ).

Camden is like stepping into a time warp. Common to see over the hill goths, punks and pretty much every other subculture still hanging around. Sadly not what it was. Not bad for a dirty night out though - Electric Ballroom is my guilty pleasure. To my absolute astonishment, 90s relic/shithole boozer The Good Mixer is still alive and kicking. :o

As said, can definitely be done in an afternoon.

i live just up the road and avoid it at all costs. full of day trippers and try hards.

overrated in terms of a nightspot too in that most places close very early, even on weekends.

still some sound music venues though.

It's OK if you like crowds, used to be good for buying some decent clobber back in the day - now it's a tourist trap, it will go the same way as Carnaby street within a few years. It's nice to have a mooch about for a couple of hours, but that's it.
