No, cause he'll only do just under half of that

At least it'll be close. Too late at night to do the arithmetic

Some Judge must have a warped sense of humour somewhere. Assange was probably looking for to heading to his local boozer for a bit of a night out, maybe a kebab on the way home, after years of being holed up in the Embassy. Then someone comes along decides to lock him up till Xmas. Talk about kicking a man when he’s down. :D

Still, I’m sure he’s got used to being behind closed doors by now!!

He skipped bail.
He has had the appropriate penalty for that.

In fact it's hardly an appropriate penalty . It's quite an extraordinary penalty in fact. Whilst it's possible to impose a penalty for estreating bail when the charge from which it arose has been disposed , it's quite unusual. When it does happen it'd usually be non custodial or a matter of 7 days which would be 3 days in reality.
It's arguable and probably correctly so that this is an extraordinary case because of the massive costs and trouble this small infraction has led to. I tend to think that another factor is to provide time for ancillary matters such as extradition to be dealt with or discretely lapsed.

All this just because he wanted to return his videos back to Blockbusters. :D

On a serious note, what are the chances of Assange getting a fair trial in the US? Looking at the timeline of events. it looks like the US officials having been gunning for him for some time.

Maybe extraditing him to Sweden might be a better option. If he’s not guilty then at least he’s not a problem here.

I see arch gobshite Jess Phillips has wrote hit piece for this worthless rag. Judging by the headline she's already decided he's guilty.

Julian Assange’s case makes it clear women’s rights are still secondary to political games
It was shocking that neither main party pointed out he’d evaded facing sexual charges

You are incredibly perceptive if you read a conclusion about his guilt in that headline.
And wasn't the point of the article that he had evaded rape charges in Sweden, a fact which was being ignored by many for various reasons.
Don’t allow your hatred of the Guardian blind you to the fact that this evasion was also commented on in numerous other news outlets.
More than a hint of ‘if you don’t like the message, shoot the messenger’, in your post.

The left can't make up their minds over whether he's guilty or whether he's a freedom fighter exposing untruths. Like most things they contradict themselves by asking "what do the right think about this". When they find out it's a simple case of "well if the right think that, then we don't"

As a mater of fact plenty on both the right and the left think this is a fucking stitch up and aren't expecting a fair trial. But as the right suspect it , the left have decided to claim he should be extradited anyhow.

Irrelevant, and you know it.
The article was about evading a rape charge and nothing to do with left or right .

Don't join in his childish game.
He insists on turning everything into right and left and claims to know what both groups think.
Laughable.

The matter is about an alleged rape charge rather than a factual one.

I don't think anyone could reasonably discount the potential for a contrived or politically motivated prosecution in this particular case unless you have already made your mind up.

That is where we are.

It's literally right against left right now in the traditional party political sense.

If the left gets its way things will change because they can offer nothing other than ideals which never work out in practice but sound great on paper and appeal to people with nothing to compare it to.

Like Venezuela it all collapses and people realise the old traditional ways work better and are sustainable for decades.
