Being announced in the morning apparently.

Happy with that...... don't want him long term, but as the short term option I think he could do a job.

Bloody hell, really ?

Tbf, who else is there, Rupe?

I agree with Suhari. They look dead & buried anyway, see if old Sparky can give them a rocket that keeps them up. Nothing to lose.

I can't believe this country has no young up and coming managers. Same old failed managers getting the jobs. Hughes couldn't do it at Stoke. If, in your opinion Southampton are already down. Why not give somebody else a try. Mark Hughes, Sam Allardyce, Phil Brown .... Blah, blah, blah.

What young up and coming manager would want to risk damaging his reputation and be out of a job by Summer?

Why would they be out of a job in the summer ? If Southampton are already down, back the manager, give him the parachute money and a chance to get them back up. I think Alex Neil at PNE, would be a better choice than Mark Hughes.

Sorry Rupe. I may be wrong, but I thought I heard on radio that the job was only up to end of season? Then Southampton will reassess where they are and the way forward

Well, if that's the case, Southampton may as well give the job to Adrian Durham.

Yep...it's looking like a deal until the end of the season.

Which is why I'm happy about it.

He's definitely better than the idiot MoPe. However, I really, REALLY wouldn't want him longer than this.

And yes, an up and coming young manager is exactly what we need in the summer. Graham Potter, the guy at Fulham....... someone on the up who will continue to develop and stay for at least 3 seasons!

I have a theory that MoPe was going to be sacked in the summer anyway, to be replaced with such a manager...... he's been fired now because it's clear there's no chance he'd keep us up.

Boom.

Trying to remember other times a manager joined a club in the prem, so close to the end of the season?

Don't happen that often.

I had to  at some tosser (a presenter, not a caller) on talkSPORT about twenty minutes ago.

Talking about Saints fetching Hughes in and going to give him a million quid if they stay up ( currently they are not even in t’ bottom three).

This guy said “a good, safe appointment from Saints. Experienced EPL manager with the nous to keep them out of trouble”.

Hello?

He was fired by Stoke because he got them into trouble which they probably won’t get out off.

He had previously been fired by QPR after going in an insane spending spree which saw them rooted to the bottom when he was fired and relegated at the end of that season.

:

Hughes, Allardyce, Wee Davey, Pardew and all the rest of these serial failures are making an absolute fortune doing a job they ain’t any good at......managing a football club.

It is total insanity.

Next season you'll probably be playing, Leeds, Millwall,QPR, etc, etc. Hughes, he'll be hanging around like a bad smell, waiting for another Premier League job.

It’s a win win for Hughes. Keep them up, gets a bonus and improves his reputation.
Goes down then he just claims he didn’t have enough time.

Without a doubt.....top level football management is the best job in the world.

It is the only job which incentivises failure.
