So Essex last played a championship game over 6 weeks ago. It's another 10 days until they play again. That's virtually 2 months. It might as well be a completely new season.

Throw in the utterly baffling decision to not have any of the four matches in September played on either Saturday or Sunday and you wonder who dreams this up.
