The 5-7 minutes of flags, music, anthems is the best I've ever experienced at football. The way the huge teardrop flags explode into life is fantastic.

Potentially the Brazilian end.

Out-of-place, unusually-shaped Mexican.

A quartet of Chinese Neymars, one of which looks like he's about to take a dive...

Plus a thousand, Endo!

Loving the pics and long may the reign!

P.S What's the official pronunciation of Nizhny Novgorod? Heard about twenty attempts at it. I go with ''Neh-zssh-nay Nov-goh-rohd."

Any Jocks seen? (Cue this is a World Cup after all, haha) but seen a few Saltires and spotted an Irish tricolor at the NGA-ISL match just there.

Tell them it's 25 degrees on the sunny Gold Coast and Belfast, not the wind and rain the lucky fuckers hoped they'd miss.

In Cyrilic it's Нижний Нoвгород. Usually the letters only have one sound when spoken, but there are always exceptions to confuse the issue. It's pronounced Nizh-nyer Nov-ge-red.

That's really not correct (she says)

Course, she is from a city called Tyumen, of which I have heard five different pronunciations.

Fair enough, although by and large, if you want to know how to pronounce Russian words look up the Cyrillic spelling. Is it Moss-coe or Moss-cow; neither, it's Moss-kvah :-) There's certainly (as far as I know) nothing like what you might call the rough/plough/cough situation you get in English.
= = =
On accents: so what is the "standard" Russian accent; the equivalent of "BBC" English? My translator friend presumably talks in THAT, but what is it, I wonder.
