What you have itemised is not ALL modern music, it's a small sub strata.

Also, I do not care whether someone has learnt to play an instrument or not. I'm sure all the members of Genesis were highly proficient at whatever instrument they played, but the music was terrible. I'm sure The Ramones could barely string 3 chords together and they were brilliant. Musicianship is vastly over-rated - music (subjectively to the person hearing it) is either good or bad, how it came to be made is neither here not there.
