The merger will enable them both to offer lower prices.
No stores will close.
No jobs will be lost.
I missed the overflying porcine.

He said no jobs in stores would be lost. That leaves head office functions and distribution centres.

Ah!
I missed that. Still not happy news for lots of workers.

Yes I like Aldi. The quality is quite okay and the staff are perfectly polite unlike Asda and Tesco, although to be fair they seem to be mostly East European so they're not so dumbed down and ignorant as younger English people.

How true. And the first people to notice this were the employers.

There’d be no point in merging if they didn’t think they could ‘cut costs’. Any reassuring noises about people’s jobs should be completely ignored.

Of course. Its not a bad thing, its called business. Obviously their distribution centres will be merged and a lot of people will be laid off, it makes a lot of sense.

I have noticed that Sainsbury's have cut the price of quite a lot of regular lines over the last 2 or 3 weeks, own label, I don't think there is a shelf where red 'new lower price' stickers don't feature, some stuff by quite a decent percentage, I can't be arsed to work it out but I think reducing something from 90p to 70p is a bit more than 10%, and 10% in the retail food market is quite a large amount.

A cynic might say that they've been preparing the customers and whichever government department might object to thinking the move would be great for the customer.

Which would be okay except that we've got a system where taxpayers will have to pay their wages instead . What will they do when everyone is unemployed ?
I don't think the tosser politicians who promised a welfare state paradise will be paying for it, although there's one group of people I'd prefer to see unemployed.
I wonder whether Amber Rudd has been down to sign on yet.

Itll never be at the stage when everyone is unemployed though, so its not really a relevant point. Streamlining a business is good. It enables it to be more efficient, make more money, and in this case, lower the prices to the consumer, which theyve now guaranteed. Business is business, you dont owe anyone a living, youre their to make money, and as much money as you possibly can, its not a game or a charity. The only aim is to make more money. If laying people off, merging distribution streams together, being able to offer lower prices as a result to the consumer, which will lead to an upsurge in turnover, how can that be bad?
