Someone told me it is still relevant and I should read it. Got to midway approx of part two and it seems more like an interesting historical thing to me. Like that was then and this is now. Oh I dunno .. wot's it all about and that tbf !
Highly recommend Homage to Catalonia. And, if you want in-depth analysis on Orwell, Christopher Hitchens in conversation with George Packer — if you can stand thr geekiness. Lol.

Don't worry. Ask Mr Tickle to change his title to Mx and his pronouns to she/her and encourage her to wear dresses and a wig. No questions asked.

From memory, the first half of 'The Road to Wigan Pier' is Orwell travelling the north and seeing the conditions of the people there and then the second half is his thesis on what can be done to change the situation. Could be seen as dated but still think an excellent book.

'Down and Out in Paris and London' is in a similar vein but all story, but some doubts on the veracity of it.

You're right about Down and Out... The narrator recalls his experiences living and working with the then lowest classes in British and Parisian societies. From what I remember, he lived on bread and margarine, worked as a restaurant kitchen assistant, slept with prostitutes, and lived in work-houses.

Currently reading Amis's Money. It's the funniest and most riveting novel I've read in a while. Wodehouse meets Boogie Nights.

It's wonderful. If you're a fan of The Wire, then it's absolute essential reading.

Might get that. Re-watched all 60 episoeds of 'The Wire' this year and more excellent than I remembered.
