A full on Nuremberg rally was in the offing. The Tunisians were being sneered at as "crafty" and Saggers was ready to go Lawrence of Arabia on their dusky desert arses. Possibly in the way El Aurens was famous for, repressed little closeter that Saggy is.

We were looking forward to innocent crockery and stationary being abused.

And faux bravado to critical - and possibly Scottish - callers in.

But alas, it wasn't to be. :(

Remember what the incomparable George Summers said? - 'Talksport make me hate football'.

Well, Talksport make me feel ambivalent towards England (hate is too strong a word).

Had to switch off Durham just now as he's talking about Trippier as if he's Philip Lahm and Henderson as if he's Bobby Charlton.

When these players start going through other teams like a knife through butter, actually going past opposition and getting a shot or two actually on target, then talk to me.

Of course, Tunisia were a disgrace and employing the dark arts against out upstanding lads. Has Durham insisted on the Tunisian F.A. reading the charter put forward by what became the Amateur Football Alliance in later years back in 1907, insisting on fair play and a commitment to play the game like gentlemen?

I've got to try and get through the rest of the WC with minimal air time from Saggers ('this lot!') and Durham ('what a disgrace they were').

watch us get battered by Belgium.

Beat Panama on Sunday and then the Belgium game shouldn't really matter.

Quite, Roddy. Though I personally don't think a hammering is on the cards anywhere. Pehaps a QF defeat to Germany (if they make it that far).

Quarter-Finals. Most England fans would be happy with that , and a new contract for Southgate guaranteed.

Given England's FIFA ranking (12), quarter-finals would be an above-average performance.

Wales are currently 18th, one place above Italy!

Then comes Northern Ireland (29th) and Ireland (31st), followed by lowly Scotland (42nd), who are placed just below Iran, Morocco and DR Congo
