Novice event over 1M at Kempton on Weds.

Barn Owl met trouble in running on debut latest. Upped to 1M after nearly three month break, raced off the pace before headway 2F mark, every chance business end, no extra near line. Nice performance after lengthy absence and took step forward here in defeat, open to further progress.

Battaash out of Prix de l'Abbaye

"We had very little choice but to take the horse out. It's a real shame but the ground looks like it will be the same or worse than last year and it would be silly to take a risk with a horse like him."

FFS.....all the Ballydoyle runners runners at Longchamp, plus those from Joseph and Donnacha’s yards, have been scratched tomorrow due to the feed being contaminated :(
Alex Young, Howard Kendall, Andy King, Timmy Cahill, Dixie Dean and Mike Parry.....we'll never see the likes of them again.

Classified Stakes event over 1M at Ascot on Fri.

Piranisi dropped back to 1M. Led, pushed along around 2f mark, challenged business end, stayed on strongly inside last, had the run of things here off a steady pace but well on top at finish. Nice step forward, should find 10F within compass next term and type to improve from three to four.

Guisborough Stakes Listed over 7F at Redcar on Sat.

My Oberon sent of the 11/8 fav following good second in G2 Superior Mile latest. Down in trip never looked at home in desperate conditions, raced off the pace before shaken up around 3F mark, never dangerous. First time he's disappointed with the extreme going clearly not suiting, remains with potential and like above the type to improve from three to four.

G1 Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe over 1M 3F 205yds at Longchamp on Sun.
As noted by Pet, four Ballydoyle runners were withdrawn due to testing positive for a banned substance found in contaminated feed, this along with the absence of Love took much of the gloss off what earlier in the week looked a cracking renewal. The lack of guaranteed pace without Serpentine & Sovereign along with the desperate conditions contributed to this being the slowest run Arc recorded since 1976.

Sottsass landed both the G1 Prix Du Jockey Club & the G2 Prix Niel prior to finishing third in last years Arc. Trained with another crack at this in mind he won the G1 Prix Garnay before being given a break returning to finish a decent fourth in G1 Irish Champion latest prior to being stepped back up to 12F for this years renewal. Tracked the pace on the inside before quickening to lead around 1F mark, driven out to hold off challenger near line, always well placed by pilot to land the spoils by a neck. Back to his very best here, whether or not he improved a great deal from last years race is an interesting talking point, all things considered an average winner on my figures. Breeders Cup a possibility, if not then off to stud at Coolmore who purchased a fifty percent share earlier in the year.

In Swoop took a big step forward on just fifth visit to the track continuing his progression following second to Mogul in G1 Grand Prix De Paris latest. Stoutly bred the heavy going brought his stamina into play and with a stronger early pace may have reversed placings with the winner, similar to last outing he was putting his best work in late on after being settle mid div. No doubt connections will be planning backwards from the Arc for next term, nice type who looks sure to progress again.

Persian King put in a career best effort winning G1 Prix Du Moulin over 1M latest. Stepped up markedly in trip here wasn't disgraced under canny ride that saw jockey set easy fractionals, responded well when asked for effort business end but stamina didn't quite last out with no extra inside last. He's off to stud now, a reliable group performer and classic winner who won't be short of suitors.

Enable travelled well enough throughout but was already struggling to find response business end when meeting interference around the 1F mark. Combination of going and lack of decent pace saw her finish out of first three for first time in her career, considerately handled by Dettori when chance had gone. Future plans up in the air at present, not much more to say than has already been said, a quite remarkable mare with an impeccable CV, history will judge her as one of the all time greats.

Stradivarius suffered much the same as his stablemate, going and lack of pace not playing to his strengths, was also struggling for a change of gear before interference business end. Not the end of the world by any means, stays in training and likely to continue dominating staying division with an eye on equaling the mighty Yeats record in the Gold Cup.

Runners and riders for Dewhurst at HQ on Sat.
Looks a cracking renewal as things stand, hopefully ground doesn't deteriorate and lead to any withdrawals.
