Fences need to be lowered and made safer. Also number of riders.
Boxers die in the ring
Racing Drivers Die in Crashes
Rugby Players suffer life changing injuries

Risk in all sports.
People have the brains to weigh up the risks and make their own decisions, animals don't. Falls have always been part of 'the fun' at Aintree, and fuck the horses.
It may be a flawed argument, I don't know shit about equine psychology but, why when the horses have disposed of their jockey do they continue to gallop around with the others jumping the fences?

They run around with the others, but when there is a way round the fence, the divert and take the easy way. No jockey to 'encourage' them to take the jump?

Couldn't make it up. A trainer blaming the protesters for the death of a horse because it fell.

Anyone who's been around horses will tell you that they're not the Albert Einsteins of the animal kingdom.
Apparently, because of the delays, the pre-race rituals were curtailed, and it's not impossible that some of the horses were taken by surprise by the first fence. There is a reason why in NH races they're led up to the first fence beforehand, to remind them what a fence looks like, and that they're supposed to jump over them.

"Extinction Rebellion" have, apparently, graciously decided to protect sporting events from disruption by people like them. That's nice.

Akin to the Hell's Angels providing security at Altamont :-)
