It depends. The first is serious foul play (red), and the second is either serious foul play or dangerous play, depending whether excessive force is used (red or yellow). Playing the ball first or not is really irrelevant.

And Vertongen got a second yellow for an exact same challenge against Arsenal.
Clear yellow card, ref got it right last night.

Real Madrid field a weakened team and lose 3-0 obviously in preparation for their World Club Cup defence. They will want to win that one.

An absolute football lesson tonight.

Salzburg were marvelous and really showed Celtic up. My pal who is more a Tim than me, seems to be a bit gutted that Celtic went through! Feck knows, as I think its great, no doubt get horsed by any of the sides they can face, but its good for the coefficient too.

Absolutely Kev, Salzburg are no mugs .Red Bull have thrown millions at them and despite the big guns that are left could go on to win this
