As expected they are up
'Race hate crimes accounted for around three-quarters of offences (78,991) and rose by 11% on the previous year.'
As we saw, the media headlines for last night's game were all about Bulgarian fans chanting, saluting and them making monkey noises. Is this level of focus and saturation coverage the best way to handle it? Is the 'fame' exactly what these morons are striving for? Is it football's responsibility?
Football clubs, associations and ground owners continue to be punished when they really have little control over what people do when they get in the ground. Identify them, round them up and ban them for life, but will this stop it?
Just heard that the Prime minister of Bulgaria has demanded that the president of the Bulgarian Football Union should resign. Why. Can he explain what he thinks he should do about it. To me, this is passing the book. Racism is the Government's responsibility imo. Arrest, trial, conviction and a lengthy time behind bars.
You won't fix it by zooming in on offending football fans on the TV, they love every minute of it. It's a world problem and country heads should be fixing it, not football, which doesn't have the means or the power.
