Re: England tour of the West Indies
Chris Gayle missed a trick, he would have cleaned-up in the MLB (baseball).

Yeah - sitting there with his 36 million dollars and his reputation as 'the universe boss' and thinking why didn't I go and become a star (no guarantees) in a sport that is only played seriously in one country in the world.

Yes, how dare the press big up our ODI team -- just because we've won 7 and drawn 1 of our last 8 ODI series.
Still at least no one on this forum is guilty of indulging in hype for the England ODI team...Holden Mcgroyne wrote:Still back us to win 4-1 and hopefully take Cotterell to the cleaners a few times
Guilty as charged Lou, I fell for the hype for one about Moeen Ali being a world class 1 day bowler, 169 runs in 19 overs tells me otherwise. I'm afraid Woakes looks finished at this level and Plunkett has lost a bit of pace. Not comfortable with fast tracking Archer in either
We may have peaked a bit early.

On the other hand Wood is a definite improvement to the team now. Moeen averages over 30 with the bat in England, so he is firmly in the all rounder role. Rashid's genius is the key for the spin department.
We haven't peaked too soon, although Farbrace leaving before the WC is a little odd.
But people only remember WC winners and having a consistent side that can take on and defeat all the world's best teams over the course of a series does not mean you will win a knockout tournament.

One bad day will see you knocked out in sudden death games, we’ve just had 2 in 4 completed matches against the 9th best team in the world and conceded a mountain of runs in the 2 games we did win.

Re: England tour of the West Indies
We've had bad days all over the place - that's my point, winning ODI series are completely different to winning a knockout tournament. But we haven't peaked too soon. We've consistently won series while having the occasional shocker.
On the plus side, this upcoming tournament has been rigged to favour consistency and we only need to definitely win two knockout games out of the 11 in total to win the tournament. (As opposed to 3 of the 9 last time)
(The last time the tournament similarly favoured consistency, 1992, we made the final. A positive omen, perhaps?)

Remember last year when Zambo made an arse of himself about Chris Jordan being a shit fielder? I still like to have a chuckle over that one.

Without looking, can you you explain that for simple men, Lou?
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

West Indies currently 35/8 chasing 183 in the T20.
Chris Jordan, who has been crucified by a certain forumer many a time, has taken four wickets for six runs

45 all out
England's 137-run win is their biggest in T20 internationals

Jordan took 4 wickets for just 6 runs.
India Women needing just 3 runs to win in the final over , only manage 1 run , gifting England an unexpected win and a 3-0 whitewash.

There are only two knockout rounds - the semi final and final. Teams like England win a lot of games, but are prone to the odd shocker. With 9 group games, you can afford to mess up once or twice and still make the semis.
For me, a cup tournament needs more knockout games. This is more like a league with a little knockout phase at the end. It massively favours the top countries.

Bet Sky are pleased they had to pay an extra fee for the last 2 T20's.

W.I 71 all out. Shocking innings by the Windies for the second consecutive game.
That's it until May and back to Blighty. An ODI v Ireland , 5 ODIS v Pakistan and the "World Cup" that we have never won at the end
of that month.
