This weird criticism of the elderly by the (presumably) younger generation is bizarre - do they think they (the youngsters) will never get old, or that they get replaced by 'invasion of the body snatcher-type' aliens?
You will be old (best case scenario prevailing) one day you know.
Although hopefully when I'm 75 I won't be a complete cunt who'll happily vote for people to literally starve to death or commit suicide and only think things have gone too far when I'm finally asked to pay a relatively very small fee. That kind of disgusting attitude to others only comes after a lifetime of freebies, which that generation never allowed those younger than them to have, happily pulling up the ladder behind them. It's not a criticism of their age, but their mindset. I don't think younger people are in danger of turning into them when they reach that age because they won't have had any of the opportunities to.
I presume (again) that I'm a lot nearer to that age than you, and due to nothing except hard work, I trust I will not be short of the amount required for a tv licence should I get that far, - not that I would buy one, given the choice.
Apart from child benefit payments (which were welcome but unnecessary) I've never required state aid of any sort whatsoever, and I would have no problem with free tv licences being means-tested, but of course, I
strongly believe that every state payment/benefit should be rigorously means-tested (no doubt your sense of fair play may be tested on that one?)
I am curious though as to what it is you think the older generation has had that the youngsters are being deprived of? I'm assuming it mostly revolves around house prices, - and I accept that when I bought my first house it was roughly 5x my salary at the time, whereas today it's probably more than double that, - but that's a debate worth having by all means.
It doesn't account for the seeming hatred of older people though, - we're mostly just the same pawns in the game as you, but with less time (but arguably more life experience).
Anyone (such as Tick) that uses 'gammon' as a racial pejorative is as much a racist as those who use the word nigger and similar pejoratively.
