Hands free phoning in cars to be banned.?

Postby Petingo » Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:49 pm

Now they are suggesting hands free phoning in cars should be banned.

They say it is “distracting”.

Quite.

Is it any more “distracting” than speaking to your passengers?

I wouldn’t have thought so.

In fact, I would suggest talking to passengers is more “distracting” on account of one often turns one’s head to look at said passengers.

At least we can talk on the hands free without that particular risk.

I would like to know how exactly would this be pleeced (one for the gaunty crowd there!)

What I would like to see clamped down on is these people who are constantly fucking about with a phone stuck on their window picking a song from their twattish driving playlist.

Joshua Harris, of road safety charity Brake, said research showed using a hands-free phone "can impair a driver in the same way as a hand-held device and so it makes sense that the law treats these acts equally".

Absolute bollocks. That's all I have to say.

No place for smoking, eating, getting a blow job, pushing a button to turn the radio on. Assume it's OK to breathe.

Waste of fucking time, there are hardly any patrol cars on the roads as it is, and how are they going to see if someone has a hands free anyway.

There was an interview on PM with a woman who had been on a motorcycle hit by a van whose driver was on a hands-free phone call. She lost her leg. He got 6 points and £100 fine.
Evan Davies raised the question of "isn't it the same as talking to a passenger" and she made the very good point that a passenger is with you in your car and can moderate the conversation when you are in a pressure situation. Someone somewhere else has no idea.

Nothing gets between me and my bars of chocolate and that includes nanny state.

If you can't use a hands free and drive safely you obviously shouldn't be driving.

Are you feeling OK by the way, as you've disagreed with Pet. :D

ps. Anyone caught using a mobile phone in their hand should be banned from driving.

It's bonkers, Pet.

But there you go, welcome to modern Britain.

A few years ago I was driving on the M25 & could see a lorry ahead of me swerving across all four lanes. It was during the summer in the early evening. The diver was either pissed or falling asleep, or both.

On my handsfree phone I dialed 999 and told the police exactly where I was and what I was witnessing. I soon got on the M11 & left the wayward lorry still on the M25. i never heard any news of a pile up, so I can only assume that the police dispatched a car to check the lorry driver was ok (which is what they tol;d me they were going to do).

I guess that in future I'd just let the lorry career all over the place until he hit someone as I won't be able to legally use my phone to warn the emergency services.

Madness.
If Arsenal were playing in my back garden, I would draw the curtains.

It's not 'a very good point', - it's just the best the safety extremists can come up with.
What about a bunch of loud kids of varying ages in the car? - they won't have a clue as to what is a 'pressure situation' or not - should they be banned next, or just anaesthetised?
As has been said numerous times, these people won't be happy until the bloke with red flag walks in front of us all again.
Despite what the establishment try to propagate, - we brexiters most definitely do know what we voted for
And for posterity, - could the usual suspects explain what exactly is 'racist' about my avatar?
Ta.
