They've being saying for years now that it's more environmentally friendly to keep an old banger on the road for as long as you can keep it crawling compared to buying the latest eco-friendly model.

Just a bit of interest.
The protester who clued himself to the top of an aircraft at London City Airport was "Brown, a partially-sighted Irish cyclist who was banned from athletics in 2016 for a doping violation".

No the way to go Jezza if you want the keys to No10.

This amused me from the first link:

"Dame Cressida also criticised Extinction Rebellion for diverting resources away from officers usually dedicated to tackling knife crime or safeguarding children."

I would suggest that the yoghurt knitters are probably having little or no detrimental effect on the performance of the police 'service'.

NB - off-topic, but the 'dame cressida' thing is no doubt the perfect leader of a body that has been changed (in name at least) from a 'force' to a 'service'. They now need to change the first bit from 'police' to 'self' for all the good they are nowadays.

What is wrong with Plod being known as a “service” instead of a “force” Mr. Twing?

It is a much less aggressive sounding suffix.

Personally I favour calling our police services “Department” like they do in the States......or even “Constabulary” as they used to be called.

But I have never liked the term “police force”

It sounds like the Gestapo or the Stadi or sommat if you ask me.

BTW..... @ the thoughts of Metropolitan Self Service :)

They should be called The Police Service when dealing with victims of crime and The Police Force when dealing with crooks.

To keep both sides happy , just call them 'The Police'.

I think m4rk has arrived at the nail on the head - to some extent at least.
If we were all model citizens, then 'service' would be fine if the police's role was rescuing cats from trees or directing traffic.
Sadly, as the population is less and less 'model', I'd still favour 'force'

I made that comment because there are still veins in the Police who think that way. Service for the public, Force against the criminals.

Many in fact. But at a certain level the Police becomes overtaken by politics where commanders and such need to be politicians not Policemen/women. The gap is now very thin.

They are employed to enforce the law, so force seems a reasonable name to me. I was going to say that I can't believe that anyone would change or object to that, but when you realise what this country is quickly turning into, it's not that much of a surprise.
