The most important club tournament in the world is just around the corner and an English team is in it after 7 years.
Let's give it the credit it deserves unlike those sneering cunts at Talksport who are blinded by their hatred from the Blatter years.
Been an interesting route.
AFRICA: Espearance Tunis (Tunisia) bt Wynad Casablanca (Morr).1-1 away first leg. Wynad refused to play 2nd leg over VAR.
Tunis declared winner.
EUROPE : Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in Wanda Met,Madrid (Atletico) (Salah 2 pen, Orogi 87) on 1st June 2019
HOSTS: Al Sadd (Qatar) Winners of Qatar Stars League.
OFC Hienghène Sport defeated Magenta 1-0 in Noumea. Both teams from New Caledonia. A surprise absence of Oz/Kiwi teams.
CONCACAF: Monterrey beat UANL (both Mexico) (1-0 a) (1-1h)
The last 2 places undecided are:
CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores-2 legged finals discontinued. One off final played at a neutral venue
23 November 2019 Flamengo Brazil v Argentina River Plate at Estadio Monumental, Lima,Peru
AFC Champions League Final 2nd leg 24 November 2019
Urawa Red Diamonds Japan v Saudi Arabia Al-Hilal (0-1 agg)
If Flamengo get through...... the teams that contested the 1981 Toyota Cup classic are drawn to meet again.

With Flamengo winning the rematch of Tokyo 81 is on the cards, a pity the great Zico didn't get amongst the goals,
and a taste of the Beautiful Game proponents of the Brazilian team that were to feature in Espana ' 82 , the greatest team not to lift the World Cup.
In 13 December 1981 Liverpool 0–3 Flamengo (Nunes 12', 41',Adílio 34') all wrapped up by half-time.
Liverpool:Bruce Grobbelaar,Phil Neal.Phil Thompson (c).Alan Hansen.Mark Lawrenson, Sammy Lee,
Terry McDermott(Substituted off 51'), Graeme Souness,Ray Kennedy. Kenny Dalglish, Craig Johnston
Substitutes:
Steve Ogrizovic, Alan Kennedy,Kevin Sheedy,Ronnie Whelan, David Johnson-Substituted in 51'
Manager:England Bob Paisley

LFC at their finest, beaten by South American types.
Brazil 1982. As per many times. Bewtiful. Look away the Scotch (bar Narey not included):
As per, still my favourite near miss, Eder v Argentina, great save by Fillol and Zico following up:

It's not Christmas on talkFORUM without SubSub and his port, wrapping up gifts listening to H and J AND Alco's World Club Cup thread.
Looking forward to it after last week's Flamengo game.

Christmas Eve a little different for me now.
I go to the pub at lunchtime with my boss for a couple, then meet Mrs subsub, have a few drinks, carols round the tree etc
But I will definitely have a glass of port while listening to the H&J Christmas show

The BBC said it would broadcast EVERY game in Qatar, Be interesting on the viewing figures for the first game
Al Sadd (Qatar) v Hienghène Sport (New Caledonia).
Has anyone been (or know someone) who has visited New Caledonia ?

The Story of the 2 Liverpools . They gave plenty warning to fans who would be naive to see regulars in the third-best English Cup
in preference to the most important club tournament in the world.
Also the ECA (European Club Association) are set to boycott the 2021 event as a backlash to expand the World Club Cup to 24 teams,
6 of which are European with early group games in the summer, to clash with Confederation Cups and Copa America, but also
a year where players can get a decent bi-annual rest between Euros and World Cups.

FIFA World Club Cup Semi-finals Doha, Qatar
17 December 2019 17:30
Flamengo v Al-Hilal
18 December 2019 17:30
Monterrey v Liverpool
Of course the other Liverpool (Liverpool reserves also have Villa in the Carbaoa Cup) .
Can the Reds emulate United (the only English winners) or will they fuck it up for a fourth time ?

Just realised that they also lost in 84 as well . Fourth time lucky. No tinkering Mr. Klopp and don't listen to English sport media.

A bit of topic but I can envisage Villa being shat on by da Pule reserves and their fringe players on Tuesday night.
