Them fiery temperamental Latin types.
Johnny Englishman would not partake in such shenanigans.

Can you blame Brazil for going Evangelical when Jesus pulls off a comeback like that?!

Love how there's always a few Argentine fans who look Scottish/Irish ; not many but you'll see the odd player or one in the crowd. The peely/wally skin ; red/brown.

I think half if not more Argentines are of Italian descent, and I think from the north of Italy mainly. Which might account for the blond and fair complexions. Just think of the most famous Argie footballers and then where their surnames are from.
Saying that, the most Italian city in the world is Sao Paulo in Brazil. In the densely populated south of Brazil the majority of the population is Italian and German. Brazil even has its own German dialect still spoken by millions of people, Hunsruckisch, which is a high German dialect hugely influenced by Portuguese and Italian.

Good point, Bas.
Although there's always a joke on Off The Ball or Radio/BBC Scotland when Argentina are playing at cuts to the crowd cue pale Argentine "Ah, ye ken he must be one of oors when we went in 78"
When Raphael Scheidt signed for Celtic, I recall " He looks like us ; he plays like us ; he even sounds like us ; he is Shite"

Re: Copa Libertadores Final: Flamengo v River Plate
And the sadly probably apochryphal story of when Celtic put Raphael on the back of his jersey instead of his surname, that on his first match the opposition fans took up the chant of, "You're Scheidt, and you know you are..."kevin04 wrote:Basualdo wrote:kevin04 wrote:Love how there's always a few Argentine fans who look Scottish/Irish ; not many but you'll see the odd player or one in the crowd. Re: Copa Libertadores Final: Flamengo v River Plate
Funny about Subbuteo ... I had both Flamengo and River. I had completely forgotten about that! haha. Would have been around 1984. I could not believe River lost this ... love to hear Tim's views on the game. His man to watch was Gerson ... who got subbed. haha. Nice chaotic South American ending to the match too. First class. The standard of play was pretty average though wasn't it.
