Singing The Blues wrote: Sun Sep 04, 2022 7:41 am Wrong call but the City players all stopped once the flag was raised and the whistle went. So far from certain Coutinho would have scored.
That’s not really the point though. Mitigating a shocking decision by saying the player wouldn’t have scored anyway gives said official a get out. Who’s to say that if the whistle hadn’t gone, Coutinho wouldn’t have tried to position the ball further away from Ederson and scored anyway? Sorry, StB, talking with my claret and blue specs on. :)
You're quite right. It was bad officiating and play should have been allowed to continue. And Coutinho might still have scored. We will never know.
I’ve a bit of sympathy with the linesman truth be told. When they do as instructed and wait to raise their flags everyone gives them grief for it, so on this occasion he raises his flag when he (admittedly incorrectly) thought there was an offside and he still gets grief.

There’s a lot of really shite refereeing goes on, but the lawmakers seem determined to make it all so fucking convoluted that it’s not a surprise when we see inconsistencies.

Still, at least the fat cunt Jon Moss has retired to eat pies all day.

The amendment which requires the assistant to wait until the outcome is established as play moves on after an offensive is barmy.

You are asking for aggro if the flag goes up when the ball is in the net. Assistants always had the flexibility not to flag if the ball runs to a defender who takes possession after an offside, but otherwise offside is offside and should be flagged as the ball is played through.

How long before a defender or keeper gets a serious injury trying to stop what was going to be an offside goal?

One of the reasons we are stuck with the current batch of below par refs.

Referee abuse: FA issued 380 bans for grassroots match official attacks last season

Those thinking of taking up the whistle aren't going to bother.

There was a ref on H&J today just before 3pm from Liverpool where they have cancelled all youth games due to the shit refs get.

Already a huge shortage, and unless they get this sorted, local football could fold. Home Club officials take a lot of games now, but they get abuse because the away teams claim bias.

Had my dressing room door kicked down once on the IOW, but no physicals. It was a team being run by Charlie George, who bought me a pint in the clubhouse afterwards.

Bans at junior level are unenforceable.

Sanctions for last season's incidents - which occurred across thousands of games - ranged from 112 days to eight years and came in a season where grassroots referees protested over the abuse they faced on the pitch.

The local teams and local leagues know who these people are. If their clubs allow them to play whilst banned, the player will be banned sine die, and the clubs kicked out of all competitions.

How do you come to that conclusion?? And before you question my right to know, I spent 10 years coaching in Youth Football.

Hoping you can explain this;
https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... -12s-match
How have the FA got any juirisdiction over a player who retired from the game in 2021?
Can he not tell them to get stuffed?

Unless he is an official of the club, he's just a spectator. It's difficult to know what sort of punishment the FA could come up with, or how they can force him to attend a hearing.

From the refs point of view, I don't think he had any option but to abandon the match.
