How have the FA got any juirisdiction over a player who retired from the game in 2021?
Can he not tell them to get stuffed?
I wonder what happened to make him snap? Considering he’s played in big stressful matches, there must be more to this story than meets the eye.

A question; hyperthetical ?
The substitute board goes up. The indicated player starts to make his way to the side. On the way he commits an offence, worth a seond yellow or a red.
Is he sent off and his team become one down, or, is he simply reported and the indicated substitute allowed to join the team ?

The player hasn't been subbed until he leaves the field of play. If his team still want to make a sub, then another player will have to come off. Team continues with 10 men.

Herr Zambo, one issue in today's in tray from yesterday's Aston Villa vs Manchester United match:

Why is Lisandro Martinez able to elbow Leon Bailey in the the chest twice without any action and when Bailey makes a complaint, the referee says that he's doing the same; also doesn't refer to VAR?

Because the whole system has become a shambles after the tweaking of several laws. Elbowing an opponent is an act of violent conduct and the offender should be dismissed. Black and white.

We have this stupid amendment where 'minor contact' should not be penalised, but this has led to some shocking in consistencies this season.

A Good example of this yesterday was at White Hart Lane when Alexander-Arnold pushed Sessegnon in the box. Blatant and with some force. A pen was not given which was ridiculous. If you use sufficient force to knock a player off his feet how can it be minor.

Ref had no option. I would have included as much as I knew in my match report, so that when the FA came to the case, they would understand the retaliation, and hopefully taken that into consideration when determining the punishment.

Shame we had to put up with him as a referee for 15 years.

Zummers, today’s Villa vs Palace match, Chieck Doucoure commits a horrendous scissor tackle on Boubacar Kamara almost snapping his ankle in half. Kamara has to be carried off. Doucoure gets a yellow. Chambers replaces Kamara, Doucoure does the same to him inside a minute and gets a second yellow.

Should Craig Pawson be required to answer why the first wasn’t worthy of a straight red and furthermore why the second wasn’t? You may have to hang fire until after MoTD tonight.

I'll check it out.

Craig Pawson looks like a startled rabbit in a headlight beam when he has to make a decision. Another poor ref. He was crucified in a recent international match for a joke performance. To hear he's been inconsistent is no surprise at all.

A firm believer that refs should attend post match sessions to answer questions about their decisions and performance.

From what you describe sounds like cases of serious foul play, which requires a straight red.

Another one. Alcaraz on Castagne. A wildly reckless tackle. Seems to be a raft of decisions not giving red for dangerous tackles these days.

Refs have been told not to penalise 'minimal contact' but that is just causing more inconsistency. A foul is a foul.
