I went to hustings tonight

Me and about 250 others went to see the Labour Liberal and Con candidates,

Very interesting. The Con ( current MP) is a cookie cutter young banker type. The Labour is a small feisty woman who is all over the local issues. The Liberal a college principal.

Usual subjects. But there was a bit of drama.

Strangely enough a few weeks before the election was announced the Con announced he had won £25m for revitalising the town centre. Cue much excitement.

HOWEVER. It turns out that we have NOT got £25m. We have been included on a list of towns that can bid for up to £25m. A list which remarkably matches the 100 most marginal seats in the election.

Not that our courageous MP was cowed by coming undone. He thinks we have a "great chance" but if we don't get it , it will be due to the local (Labour) council.

The extent of carefully-constructed cons in this election is incredible. I wonder how many other places have rumbled this?

I'm afraid you've just got to accept the complete dumbing down of our country courtesy of policies you support.

Perhaps you meant this as a reply to another post.
Because it doesn't make sense.
But then again...
Short of providing pictures, I don't know how better to explain.
He produced this story a few weeks before the election was announced (!) and got the expected publicity.
However the truth is somewhat different, all there is is the opportunity to bid for some money UP TO £25m.
A line which is being spun in 99 other towns apparently.
As for the dumbing-down, the only connection here is that someone in Central Office thought people would be stupid enough to fall for it. They haven't been.
He was laughed at.
Mind, it was a fair bet. They have fallen for a load of other stuff which has crumbled within days.

Perhaps you'll provide a link, - for context? (and veracity).

Perhaps this will help

As for the reveal last night, you would have had to be there.
When he had to concede he had lied, and that it was simply a chance to BID for UP TO £25m, he then tried to claim if it wasn't successful, that would be the fault of the (Labour) council. I started to think a stake through the heart would be needed.

By they way he is a Remainer who has magically been converted.
