Always remember fixing up a meeting at HMRC HO in Norwich at 10am to suit them. Got the first train from the South Coast. That was my experienced, but unlike some, I don't believe that my experience applies to everyone. It has some who like to say an honest days work and be compensated for that. As in any organisation, private or public. I have today spoken at a conference on alcohol addiction and it was the last in a series of conferences over the last three Saturdays. Attended by 35 people from the public sector.

Ministers come and go but civil servants are there for a while and they know about how their departments are resourced and organised,
