Really interesting discussion this afternoon on the radio whilst driving back from work about the financial implications on clubs as a result of the coronavirus. It woulden't surprise me if football is completely transformed post coronavirus.

My plan for football...

Reintroduce the maximum wage (£20 a week).

Remove all seats and charge 10 shillings maximum to stand.

Allow shoulder-charging of foreign goalkeepers.

Boots must be black.

That should sort it.

Ahh The good old days.

There needs to be less football. That'll be the outcome. I've no sympathy for the greedy corporations trying to wring every last penny out of it; rinsing the fans. They've (The Corporations) have only got themselves to blame. As I said in another post, this whole thing has made me become quite radical and socialist. Whatever the outcome, I think it'll be good. That fucker at the PFA is quiet. That cunt needs to go. The football pyramid? What a joke. It's bullshit, it's Clintonomics. The 'trickle-down' effect. Bullshit. The stream of money ends at the bottom of the old second division (EFL?). Fuck the cunts. cut wages, cut the amount of games and spread the fucking wealth. The Bundesleague (sp?) seems at least on the surface to be a healthy model. Base it on that. Fans over in Germany revolted when it was suggested games should be played on Monday, Sunday, etc. etc. Our fans are fucking sheep following whatever SKY or BT want to dictate. I want to see games played on a Saturday at 3pm. With one on a Sunday.

Shorts must come BELOW the knee and very baggy. Boots must be like Dr. Martens .
The goalkeepers can be shoved into the goal , along with the ball.
All players must smoke Woodbines.

To be honest, the future of football is of very little consequence in the greater scheme of things.

Of much more pressing concern is how we are going to get the real world economy going if and when this plague abates.

True this.

Back to the football though: I REALLY hope this creates a reset in the stupidity of the £££ in the game. £200k a week wages can't be justified for anyone, let alone an oink kicking a ball. And particularly given the virus.

The reality gap between a modern Premiership layer and an ordinary person is similar to the gap between Earth and Alpha Centauri.

There will certainly be less money spent in the next transfer window, whenever that will be.
Even at the elite level, paying out huge sums of money every month on wages with no match day revenue is going to bite quite a bit.

A trivial off the point comment re: Woodbines.
A friend of mine, was at Maine Road, and swears that after half-time, Alex Harley, the City forward, came out of the tunnel still smoking a cigarette which he stubbed out before going onto the field.
This was iin the 1960's. These days it would be a cigar.

A lot of clubs going semi professional. The trend has been the other way with clubs even in Tier 5 being professional and some below that as well. Wage reductions at this end as well. As usual the privileged elite will suffer little as in society. Nor will they do little more than lift a finger to help.

Liverpool have said that all their match day staff will still be paid, and have offered them to supermarkets to help with the organisation of people arriving to shop.
