I have always thought the best ever Beatles cover but this live version is sensational IMO.

Decent shout, Ol’ Pet but this Cocker fellow is Sheffield’s finest for me.

Excellent Pet, but I like The Carpenters Ticket to Ride, We Can Work it Out - Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin – Eleanor Rigby

Had a Beatles afternoon with Alexa this avro. :smt023

In my opinion not just a major crime against a charming Beatles song, but the worst record ever made.

By overloading such a light, happy and slightly sardonic song with bombastic steroid-style “heavy” seriousness, it not only ruined the song, but set pop music on the dread road to heavy rock, etc.

A bit like that old Bodyform ad, where the singer shrieked “Whoooa Bodyfo-o-orm!” as if she were Lorraine Ellison singing “Stay With Me”.

Poor old Joe. There must have been times when he wished he'd ended up on the "Woodstock" cutting-room floor. Every night, for the rest of his life, having to sing that, or have the audience feel cheated.

If anything is histrionic and overblown, it’s Reg’s analysis in this particular case.
