Joe Rogan quits YouTube for Spotify.

Post by Basualdo »

And Spotify shares goes up 11% on that news.

This has got to hurt YouTube. And all the other platforms that carry his podcast as he will now be Spotify exclusive.
He gets an average of 190m downloads a month. How many of them will follow him is the big unknown but if he even only takes a quarter then Spotify bosses will be moistening their corporate panties.
They say they will be showing his shows on video too though I don't think they have a video platform yet.

fucking bullshit. spotify is the worst way to consume podcasts.

I understand him wanting to get away from the weird communist shill that is youtube, but goddamn spotify, it cant even play podcasts in order.

They've got to be throwing silly money at him.

A few months ago one of my once favourite podcasts, Last Podcast on the Left, went Spotify exclusive. I didn't bother following. I might have a year earlier but they'd been going rapidly downhill anyway. Even though I like Rogan's stuff, it's only the the odd one in ten that I find interesting sobi doubt I'll bother following. Most of the rest of his stuff is UFC shite or his tiresome comedian pals - though I make exceptions for Bill Burr.

Rumoured to be worth $100m, doesn't say over how many years. Good luck to him, I like his show and he appears to be a decent guy.

Do what I do sub to the clips channel and then listen to the full podcast based on how good the clips are. Clips are still going to be loaded on YT.

Yeah, will do.
It was actually watching a clip of him that convinced me to sub.

He seems like a complete prick so it's no loss to me.

It wouldn't be a loss to me anyway, I use Spotify daily since it's 2020 and could listen to him on there if I wished.

one of the best interviewers on the planet.

Just asks simple questions and lets the guests go, whether they go insane or not.

Not going to hurt YouTube at all.

More than likely find that people will upload the podcasts to YouTube a day or so later anyhow

I imagine a good portion of that will come from his work with the UFC.
