Microsoft Office

I don't have Office for my Mac, so I use the Mac equivalents, eg Pages, Numbers, Keynote etc

I probably should get a copy of Office, so that when dealing with client docs, I don't have to keep changing the format etc
But when I Googled it, it looks like you pay a monthly subscription now, rather than a one-off payment - is that right?

There seems to be plenty of hooky versions of Office online, too, but I have no idea whether they are dodgy.

Any ideas?

you can pay a monthly sub, but thats office365 not the office suite.

Depends how much you use the cloud, thats mainly what 365 is good for, being able to access everything from different devices.

Cheers, East-o.
I just want Word/Excel/PowerPoint, none of the bells and whistles, because sometimes when I open up files from clients they're formatted differently, bits are missing etc
Is a right faff.
Don't need it access on other devices, either.

Good man, cheers East-o.
Am sure I could get a free version off the internet somewhere, but am reluctant to download something that could fuck up my computer forever.

If you dont want to spend any money, libreoffice is free and very good.

It doesnt look as good, but it does everything office does.

Re Libreoffice, can you edit existing docs in docx format which have been created on Open office. I use a conversion program to change to docx, but it doesn't come out as I would like it.

just make a copy, and open it and save it as docx when you go to save as is what I normally do rather than converting them

I use Apache OpenOffice on my Mac, it's another freeware suite that claims to everything MO can do. I don't use all the programs so can't confirm it either way.
