The government must distinguish illegal and mass immigration, part of what Christopher Hitchens calls 'uniculturalism'*, from multiculturalism. These three things are becoming increasingly blurred. As we know, multiculturalism, a positive force, isn't bad at all. It is a cliché, but Britain, like much of the West, is built on it. Multiculturalism has given us beautiful art and gastronomy, and laid the foundations for some of the characteristics we Brits are known for: optimism and tolerance.

Uniculturalism, however, particularly with regards to religious extremist countries (Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc) disguises itself as multicultural but is actually nihilistic, self-pitying and sanctimonious in nature. Admittedly not all refugees arriving from such countries are like this. Some cases are genuine. But, as I mentioned above, these things - the line between those who genuinely need help and those to whom Britain is the land of milk and honey, and thus should be taken advantage of, is becoming blurred.

Nihilistic countries? Afghanistan were our mates when the Soviet Union invaded it. Iraq too when we were happy supporting Saddam against the Ayatollahs. Seems we’re happy to name call those countries from which needy refugees descend from by calling the countries ‘failed states’, ‘pariah states’ and ‘terrorist advocates’ and the people as parasites, cockroaches and idle scumbags just to justify our contempt for them daring to come to a country where they can escape the religious and cultural persecution the suffer, loss of livelihood and abject poverty.

Who’s being self-pitying and sanctimonious? The refugees certainly aren’t.
