Anyone not having Turkey?

Post by Vespa »

This year we're having belly pork for Christmas lunch, rather than Turkey. I wanted pork rib but I was overruled.

I've also been sent a bottle of akevitt to drink.

Just wondering if anyone else isn't having turkey?

Mrs Subsub gets given a turkey from her work every year, plus a load of veg, so bit daft not to take advantage.
Will be removing the legs and wings, though, and just doing the crown.
Legs will go on the smoker some time in the New Year, and wings will be roasted separately at some point and coated in hot sauce :)

We're having a cote de boeuf on Christmas Eve, though :D

Don't like it, but go along with the rest of the family and have a bit of breast. However, I don't have to do that this year, as we are having a curry. Don't care what is in it, as long as it isn't turkey.

I hate turkey. I hate all traditional Christmas food.
I also hate Christmas but that has nothing to do with my loathing for Christmas food, it's just a happy coincidence.
Turkey is just dry giant chicken, and chicken ain't that lush.

Christmas pudding, what the fuck is that shit?
Dried fruit has no place on this planet.

Mince pies, see above.

Brussel sprouts, I don't mind them to be honest.

I know it's a hoary old cliché but it's true, that if Xmas food was that good we'd eat it all year round.

We have smoked turkey a few times a year, I loved smoked meat and happily, I live with someone who doesn't mind getting up at silly o'clock to make it.

I'm unlikely to as I don't remember ever seeing turkey in Russia. We're going to do something I've never done on Christmas Day, actually - go out to eat. Christmas Day is not a thing here - New Year is their big thing.

What will you do on the 25th, then, Rowntree? And what will you be eating?

We'll go to a nice restaurant in the city centre. Not sure what we'll eat - something expensive (for here) - UNLESS I do track down somewhere that sells turkeys, but it's unlikely I think.

I thought this was an Alan Brazil style rant against Turkey the country.

But now I’m here... we’re having dry-aged beef rib.

Picked it up from the butcher this week, and he said there had been so much demand that hadn’t been able to cover all his regulars - and had to turn away “a celebrity”...

We tried that last year. It was a bit rubbery.

I'll get my coat!
