Roughest pub you've ever been in

Post by Zippy »

Went to this shithole once in Stratford-upon-Avon of all places. A bloke hit another guy with a chair and most people barely even looked up. This was many years ago. It's probably a gastropub now with £15 burgers. :)

The King Richard Tavern on Castlereagh Street in East Belfast, the King Dick as it was known. You can fnarr fnarr away about the nickname but it's really not funny when you went inside. The furthest from gay you can imagine.
I spent a evening that I'll never forget for all the wrong reasons in that bar nearly 40 years ago.

The Grapes across the road would run it close too. I saw a catfight roll down the stairs like on a movie there.

Put up some of those flat-roofed ones in Glasgae, Shabba?
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

Any flat roofed pub can be guaranteed to be rough. There was one in Salford some years ago when two would-be assasins went in to kill a regular. For some reason they cocked it up and the regulars took their gun, took them outside and shot them.
Now that's rough.

I always thought the flat roof rough pub thing was a mainland thing and was just now chuckling at the phenomenon when I realised there's one just a couple of miles down the road from my house.

And yes, it is meant to be a hole and no I haven't been in it.

There were a couple in Leeds city centre about 20 years ago that were genuinely terrifying. Big Lil's was one of them; can't remember the name of the other. Both long gone now.

Mr Pickwick, now derelict. Biggest bundle I've seen in the car park. What started it? Some bloke nicked his empty basket after eating the chicken in it, and one of the bar staff chased him out demanding it back. It just all took off in a couple of seconds.🤪

Always remember an edition of Sid the Sexist , in Viz (for the young 'uns) where a giant bloke went around the pub and threatened to
batter anyone who went for a piss after drinking less than 8 pints of ale. Sid reassured the bloke that him and his mates and 2 pints in another
pub prior to avoid a beating.
