Because it's the correct thing to do until it's established whether he said what he's alleged to have said.
At the moment, rightly or wrongly there's a cloud hanging over Vaughan, so it wouldn't be right for him to continue his pundit duties until this matter is resolved.
But he hasn't been found guilty of anything yet.

I refer you to the comment I made the other day: if a pilot was accused of drinking in the cockpit, would he be allowed to continue flying passengers around while his employers investigated whether it was true or not? Of course they wouldn't.

I suspect he'll continue to deny all knowledge, because he knows his media career would be harmed if he admitted it.
