Lambrini. In one of yesterdays Sunday Times magazines, there was a feature on Sumo training camps. It must have been 'Culture'. I was hoping to bring it home to scan for you. Somhow, sadly, I ended up with the socalled 'Style' mag with lots of shit clothes for lots of coin.

Try to search it online or if desperate to read at a library. I didn't read it, err just looked at the pictures of the boys err stretching and thought to bring it home. And failed.

Sumo wrestling is one of Japan’s most enigmatic traditions: ritualistic, mysterious, eye-popping. Wrestlers — rikishi — are typically scouted at about the age of 15 (though they can start training from as young as 3), when they enter the beya, the dedicated sumo stables where athletes live and train. The sport is proudly Japanese, though competitors also come from other countries with wrestling traditions, such as Mongolia and Georgia; each beya can admit only one foreign fighter.

So pleased for Abi! A well deserved win! I'm glad he beat Takakeishō.



Shame about Tochi. He's struggling physically and it's obvious his knees aren't right. Meanwhile, September's winner, Ichinojō, who weighs over 33 stone, played badly.



Wakatakakage, an audience favourite, received the award for the most wins of 2022.



More awards: Takayasu, awarded the Distinguished Service Prize, suffered concussion during his final bout (see clip below). Amazingly, if Abi lost to Takakeishō, he agreed to carry on and fight if necessary. Fortunately, Abi won.



The bloke was literally in pain and almost passed out. No stretcher, nothing. Jesus.

I can't warm to Takakeishō, with his brutal fighting style. Shodai is another one I can't stand and yet the crowd love him. Lol.
