Will Terunofuji retain his yokozuna title? :D
Brilliant tournament so far.

Will watch if up, so that's a 50/50 at the moment.

The channel should be available on Freeview, Virgin, and Sky, so you could set the programme to record. NHK also upload shows to the website and app.

Yeah, will probably catch up on the website. Know the results today. Was trying to thing who the top man was when it was on C4 as he won lots and wasn't that big. So on Mr Wiki, seems it must have been this fella: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiyonofuji_Mitsugu First name seems right from a long memory ago.

Sumo is so underrated. As is Kabbadi. (sp).

Another great C4 staple back in the day. They were talking about it on some TS show recently. Apparently it's glammed up from being played in some field to now in indoor halls. Mon the Indian Railway. :)

+1

Sumo is entrenched in history and tradition, hence why the game hasn't become politicised or infected by "equality". It's fundamentally about sport: skill, discipline, respect, and ultimately winners. That's it. ❤

When it was on c4 "back in the day" and there was fuck all else to watch, I gave it a go. I do like the Japanese mentality, they are clearly all insane. So in amongst the flabalanches there was one guy who didn't look like a blubber mountain, actually had definition. Powerhouse boss, he was the champ, he set the mark. What was his name you googlin sumosimps?

Lol.
I wonder why Channel 4 don't show Grand Sumo anymore?
As for blubber mountains, to my mind successful wrestlers need to be very strong as well as big.

Channel 4 had a pretty good record at popularising Obscure Sports. They were the first station to show the Tour de France properly, as an unfolding drama, and the Sumo was compulsive viewing.
The actual Sumo competition just confirmed what the long build-up implied. It was psychological warfare, and the winner had won before any actual Sumo had taken place.

My favourite was Terao, remember him? A relatively little bloke, but he gave it everything he had.
