Tax, tax, and then tax some more. Borrow, borrow, borrow. Debt, debt, debt.

Same old, that is to say bankruptcy and recession.

The UK is already in a recession.

Oh dear.
Funny how these myths roll on.
Despite having to throw billions at bailing out banks over-reaching themselves after Tory encouragement the debt under Brown was about one quarter of the debt this lot have clocked up, even with austerity. Oh and the overall tax level ( remember for many of us VAT costs us more than income tax) is the greatest since 1948.
And that's without the terminal damage Truss tried to inflict.

There is nothing myth-like about a Labour Government promising to sort the economy and then proceeding to bankrupt the country. They even left a note admitting it.

The country wasn't bankrupt in 2010.

What Tory encouragement was that ? Labour bankrupted the country on its own

Not sure this government has been a economic powerhouse. Shame neither Tory or Labour can have a sensible conversation about national debt and investments.

I'm no financial expert, and have no idea if countries can technically be called bankrupt, but the debt at that time was 1.2 trillion and we had fuck all money left, so we were practically bankrupt. The next Government was forced to introduce unprecedented austerity measures.

So if it wasn't bankruptcy make up another name.

The UK didn't declare bankruptcy nor did it default on any debt. The tories introduced their austerity measures due to ideological zeal.

So no, it wasn't bankrupt in 2010.

The austerity measures were introduced because a Labour Government left the country broke and destitute. Byrne is still embarrassed about it now.

The austerity measures were introduced because it's what the Conservatives had wanted to do all along. The 2008 economic crisis caused by reckless bankers was a convenient cover for all that.

Arguing over tax and borrowing by the next government is a little silly given whatever party wins the next election will have to tax more and borrow.
