What’s it like your way?

Post by kancutlawns »

With the tournament stating virtually during the working week and no one really getting out and about, is there any cheap tacky England bunting up, are the supermarkets advertising, pubs showing the football. In short, would one even know the World Cup is on if you didn’t turn your telly, computer or smartphone on?

In West London it's totally different to all other World Cups, other than pubs showing games.

As per another thread. One flag of St. George seen, in someone's back garden.
Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's Maybelline.

A chap down the road from me used to go overboard with decorations [flags, bunting etc] for any important event. People used to go past just to see what he'd done at Christmas. He collected donations for charity from viewers.
This time; not a thing. I've not seen anything else round here.

TK has apparently been putting up flags of St George on every scaffolding job after he's poled his Mrs and for nostagia's sake the local bakery.

Does it matter? Many countries celebrate their national team with over-the-top embellishment (Scotland, hello!) but when the English do it, it's considered 'tacky' and embarrassing.

Nothing my way. It's not like it's a proper World Cup, having it this time of year.

I was in there earlier in the year. Seems to have calmed down since then.
