ISIS Brides
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53427197
I'm torn by these cases. On the one hand, it's clear that young girls were groomed by ISIS to travel aboard and be instantly wed to their fighters. The UK government have also contrived to make these girls stateless which is illegal under international law. Begum was born here, if Syria chooses to deport her here there is little we could do.
On the other, if you join a barbaric cult that killed and raped its way across a country cheerleading them as they went there should be some act of karma at some point.

Re: ISIS Brides
Once she get back, she's here to stay.
How many other 'child' brides will follow?
How many of their terrorist husbands will come also?
A very dangerous precedent to set
Those supporting her like Liberty won't be able to understand that, or think that it's worth the risk in the name of Human Rights
Will cost millions in protection money, and for the statue
Wrong move

The judgement was on her case, not all the cases. The main plank seems to be making her stateless.Zambo wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:27 pm Once she get back, she's here to stay.

Floodgates opening springs to mind. There are around 150 in a similar position to Begum. And they all have terrorist husbands who may just be allowed to follow them.Vespa wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:35 pmThe judgement was on her case, not all the cases. Re: ISIS Brides
Should she not be put in prison upon her arrival?
She's been quite open about being a terrorist.

I know that's what the Daily Mail are saying. Firstly their husbands have no right of residence, being married isn't a pass for a free passport. Secoundly the judgement relate to Begum's case specifically, it hasn't changed the status of anyone else.Zambo wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:39 pmFloodgates opening springs to mind. The government has the tools to build an effective system for people like this, be nice if they got on and did it.

Re: ISIS Brides
This would be the start of one in all in. They would all build their case round Begum getting in,s o should they. And they will.Vespa wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:46 pmI know that's what the Daily Mail are saying. Firstly their husbands have no right of residence, being married isn't a pass for a free passport. Isn't a good deal of UK law based around precedent.
Won't her case serve as such for future returnees.

Re: ISIS Brides
Hence my point around the government developing a way to manage this and not pretend that some of these people who are British won't return.

Owen Jones should be warned not to stand on the roof of a high building while being in her company.

Re: ISIS Brides
She was clearly groomed so I do have an element of sympathy for her.
However, I find it a bit strange allowing her back to prepare her case as once she’s back she’s back. If she loses where on earth are we going to send her ? She’s stateless.
