Why would the Brighton player be berating the referee about marking?

Look at it again, look at the position of the two players involved in the challenge, look at the angle that the ball left the challenge, and this will give you a clue who had the last touch. You are right it was on the far side, and the ref was nearer to the camera. This is where assistant's should come in, because on this occasion he would have had a better view.

Much of referees positioning and movement these days is appalling. They are lazy because they don't get assessed on each game like they used to. All about angles when it comes to judgement and interpretation, and it's no wonder that they miss so much.

I didn't say he was berating the referee.
But a team-mate.
Nonetheless, it's common when a team is on the back foot to be argumentative about free kick and corner decisions.
Liverpool Stat Brighton
30 Shots 9
8 Shots on target 3
2.78 Expected goals 0.44
55% Possession 45%
574 Passes 462
8 Corners 4
20 Fouls 6
5 Yellow cards 3
0 Red cards 0
Surely you aren't arguing that a referee should over-rule the evidence of his own eyes if a player shouts at him?

I'm suggesting that he puts more effort into getting into the appropriate position, in order that he has got more chance of making the correct decision.

If you get a decision wrong, then although it might not be seen as a major error (like throw in or corner/goal kick) Game changing situations can arise, as we saw yesterday.

btw the player involved in the challenge with, was it Nunez, was explaining to the referee that he had fucked up my giving a corner and not a goal kick.

btw2 Stats mean nothing when it comes to referees making incorrect decisions.

Your point was that because a Brighton player argued with someone ( possibly the referee, but we don't know) the Brighton player must have been right.

Well yes, he was right, Nunez got the last touch.

And he was indeed remonstrating with the referee.

Gusto was a bit average.
