Hats off to India! (Chandrayaan-3)

Post by JimmyDee »

They did it this time! Soft-landed a craft at the moon's South Pole, and at minimal expense; $75 million, apparently, to do something scientifically interesting.

To put things into perspective this would buy less than a Harry Kane, about eleven feet of the HS2 railway, or keep the NHS running for three-and-a-half hours.

And all for a mere 25% of the foreign aid they get from the UK every year.

Sick is the word. Sending rockets to the moon whilst over a third of their kids are malnourished.

I like how we keep every other Gupta, Oleg and Adogwe supplied with weapons for their defence when our own armed forces are 6 bumboats & a minesweeper, the denizens of Pippin Fort and the Red Arrows.

Our nation could be taken by a lunatic with a rolled up newspaper.

And TBH, he's welcome to it. It's a fucking shitehole.

Nations will pursue feats like this where they can. The USA flew men to the moon while it enacted social and economic inequalities. The USSR and China had space programmes while dealing with economic tumult.

No doubt India has its internal problems to resolve. It'll continue striving to do so, eventually following China's lead in becoming truly sufficient in feeding its own population as an example.

Nearly 50% of all Indians don’t have inside toilets. 80 million people out of 1.2 billion Indians, roughly equal to 6.7% of India's population, lived below the poverty line of $1.25 and 84% of Indians lived on less than $6.85 per day in 2019. It’s incapable of looking after it’s people.

The country has a prevailing caste system, has an age long conflict with a neighbour and a leader who is a Hindu Fascist.

And it’s a shithole.
