If you ignore some of the iffy covers I'm sure most of the forum Brums would agree that UB40 were a pretty good band. Food for thought was one of the first singles I ever bought.

UB40 played some good stuff.

Yup, good group. Very underrated. Good old Brian Travers became Gorgeous George’s sidekick a few years back when he went on his talking tour.

Still remember so clearly watching U2’s performance at Live Aid. The scenes during Bad about 6:40 through were unforgettable. Pure theatre. Overshadowed Freddie and Status Quo that day.

I really don't remember seeing that, and a few months after Heysel and still no crowd breaks or barriers to prevent crushing. Besides the cultural significance the old Wembley as a venue was a charmless shit hole, must've seen U2 touring in '84 not 85 then my bad.

Remember watching England playing Argentina there in about 1992 and going in the terraces behind the goal. Never again. A dire experience on a miserable day and could hardly see anything. Always sat long side after that.antdad wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 2:47 pm I really don't remember seeing that, and a few months after Heysel and still no crowd breaks or barriers to prevent crushing. 1985. Wow, that's almost 40 years ago. I didn’t think you were young enough to remember it.kancutlawns wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 2:25 pmStill remember so clearly watching U2’s performance at Live Aid. Saw them in October 1981 at Salford University. They were still a drums, bass, guitar and vocals band and sounded really fresh and exciting.
Never seen them since as I don’t do stadium shows.

Re: U2 in Vegas
Not so many, I remember Mud supported by Nik Turner’s Inner City Unit - I went for the support band because of the Hawkwind connection. Mostly it was soft rock type artists they booked like Judie Tzuke, Roy Harper or Sad Cafe.
I was more into heavy metal or heavy rock so it was other venues around the Manchester area. And I had left before the rush of new Manchester bands played there in the later 80’s. So I missed the likes of James, New Order, The Fall and The Smiths.
