Found dead, apparently, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two questions, one trivial, one not ...
1) Why don't they shoot themselves BEFORE killing all those other people?
2) What makes them so angry?

Q2 is, of course, more difficult for politicians to solve. You could take guns out of the equation fairly easily by law, if there was a will so to do, but that doesn't stop people being angry about some fucking thing in their lives, and politicians seem strangely reluctant to even discuss that problem, possibly because it might reflect badly on the politicians in charge.
Anyway, whatever.

Because that takes away all the fun.

...because they seek notoriety in death.

I think 2/3 of mass shooters are suicidal (self inflicted or shoot out) either before or become so during the event, not being wise after but when they couldn't find him and it didn't all end in a hail of gunfire I thought he would've topped himself.

Expect some copy cats in the coming days and weeks, it's in the nature of it.

Yes good questions

But here if you are angry or disappointed, you don't pick up an assault weapon and kill 20 people. The US set up makes that far, far more likely and it is indispensable.
Is also based on a misreading of the constitution.

+1

Yes, that's certainly the case for many mass shooters. Some have left videos and diaries explaining their reasons, like Randy Stair (see documentary below; discretion is advised.)

Why, when they are possessed, let us suppose, by the feeling of revenge, then for the time there is nothing else but that feeling left in their whole being.

As per Q2 it's fairly well studied because unfortunately they've had plenty of examples to examine. I hadn't really followed this latest case but a friend told me today the shooter had been sectioned before but then not all states psychiatric test.
