M&S's campaign is one of the worst I've seen for a few years. Terrible. Get in the bin:

The moral outrage is ridiculous. Some people are thick as mince. M&S filmed the advert in AUGUST. Their intention is obvious: to encourage shoppers to do away with Christmas norms and traditions, hence the crackers on the fire. Colours red, green and silver are associated with Christmas, as we all know. All of this has nothing–zilch, zero—to do with Palestine. Lol.
It's a shame the company pandered to the mob since their marketing department likely spent millions of pounds on the campaign!

I think they knew exactly what they were doing, but got overtaken by events.

I suspect that they were hoping for some sort of "going viral on Twitter" crap. It is true that the ad was made in August, but the Palestine flag wasn't invented in September When they made that ad they probably (I think) hoped for a low-key "is it or isn't it?" discussion, started by them, thus getting everyone to watch the bloody thing. It didn't go quite the way they anticipated, though, after October 7th.
