Sin bins

Post by theleader82 »

I read football is looking to introduce sin bins for minor offences. I think this is a good idea as red cards can spoil a game, and even a yellow can effect a players performance.

'Plans for football to introduce 10 minute sin-bins for cynical fouls and dissent have been recommended for trialling in the professional game.'

10 mins

Make it 30 if you want to cut it out.

Do you think this would be instead of those measures? Very much doubt it.
As for yellow cards "effecting" players, isn't that the idea?

I think sin bins work well in rugby league. They have them in ice hockey too and they work well

Will goalkeepers be exempt from going into the sin bin? It could really change a game if they’re not and promote some very cynical tactics.

Goalkeepers should not be exempt. For one thing, it will increase the deterrent for them to keep their gobs shut. Also, it will make them think twice before they haul an opponent down.

Sin bins work quite well in rugby because any numerical advantage even short term can be fairly detrimental, not so much with football. I agree with the above, make it longer say 20 mins so it has some adverse effect on the rest of the team. 10 minutes is pish.

A yellow card in rugby IS a time out in the sin bin or penalty box so how is it supposed to be awarded, an orange card?

From what I can make out from the pundits on tS ...
1) Before anyone suggested it: "There should be something between a yellow and a red card, maybe a 5 or 10 minute sin-bin."

2) After it was suggested: "That's a ridiculous idea!"

I liked them turning the lights off.

Also, the comment from @tobulko, '4:20, the Slovak fans in the stands shouting "My chceme hokej! (We want hockey!)"', which they are shouting.
