antdad wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2024 7:54 pm I don't know what the answer is, for the first time they actually checked my penalty record and it cost me another £150 after they found out I had 3pts and I've had no claims for over 30 years. Pick the lowest insurance band vehicle, grab a few registrations from the AutoTrader website and test a few comparison websites.

What about classic car route, my insurance is cheap but you don't get no claims. Probably pick up a 25 + year old Golf of Ford for reasonable money

I pay £103 a year for my 1978 Ford Escort Mexico ,but that classic insurance limits me to 1500 miles a year.

If you drive a non-compliant vehicle in London you now pay for the privilage. He'll have to pay ULEZ like I'm happy to but that'll be prohibative if he uses the car everyday which is the point.

I don’t drive... yet. And already I'm dreading all this shite. The language alone is enough to drive people insane (don't excuse the pun.) 'Non-compliant.' 'Privileged cars.' 'YOU LES.'
'Ee-Vee.' Plus the extortionate insurance and MOT costs.

Balls!

The freedom's we all enjoy are usually the result of restricting somebody elses so hopefully as a Londoner you'll eventually feel the benefit of my sacrifice. You're welcome. ;)

I'm not feeling the benefit of your sacrifice, Ant.

The car as a symbol of freedom is the most socialist thing I've ever heard.

How do you think I made it to 49 claim free years? By being a careful, sensible driver.
And when other drivers see how old you are, they keep clear.

He is working full time but on minimum wage, don't know how we can get around it and help him, since passing his test he's over eager to drive.
He should invest in a bicycle. It's cleaner than a car and is a fraction of the cost. Plus there's no insurance involved.
