Anyone on here who does not expect this to be arson?
It's amazing this actually got out as news. Most stuff in France doesn't these days.

Quasi has been mentioned a couple of times but some people grieve more than others and found his name offensive.
They'll be in the back garden for the next half hour holding up a flame from their cigarette lighter.

Re: Notre Dame
What's the betting they can't identify a culprit.
Those frogs will be hopping mad if they ever found out it was a religiously motivated arson (terrorist) attack of a national and world icon of civilisation.

Surely a construction fire from the renovation work that was going on extensively at the Cathedral

I wonder if it was the same firm that was working on the Glasgow School of Art in 2014 and 2018.

Re: Notre Dame
I'm devastated by this.
It's symbolic in some way, but I don't know why yet. I don't believe it's an accident but this building is an emblem to our faith and St Denis. It was the iconic to the Resistance and I wonder if this is connected to that fact.

Just trying to open up an alternative train of thought given a plethora of possibilities.
Can't see any contractor given a job inside this place starting a fire myself. I might be wrong though. We'll just have to accept what we're told happened.

A truly wonderful structure. The place I usually go to first when I’m in Paris and it had such a majesty about it. A terrible day.

Re: Notre Dame
I'm not a religious type but Notre Dame was always a place I loved to visit in my favourite city. Mrs S, however, prefers Sacre Coeur.
Kancut, have you ever visited Saint Julien le Pauvre church in Paris? It's a lovely wee Greek Catholic church - I love it.

The most overrated tourist site on the planet! I'm not sure how it ever became the most famous cathedral when it's not even the oldest or biggest. Just a dark and dingy, grubby little place. Very tacky inside too with all the shops and begging nuns. The McDonalds of religious buildings.
