Chicory Tip - "Son of my father" (1972)
The only reason I remember them is that they formed in this very Maidstone, and a pub just up the road from me, the "Dog and Duck", to be precise, used to have their gold discs on the wall. Or gold disc in the singular, I can't recall the precise details.

Very confusing lyrics to that song.JimmyDee wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 11:43 am Chicory Tip - "Son of my father" (1972)

Son Of My Father was the first proper record I ever bought. The actual first was Ernie by Benny Hill...........

As I recall them:
"Son of my father, mooling and a-drooling and a binky-bonk"
Nothing confusing about that.

I did like the 1997/98 Teddy Sheringham remix.
Oh Teddy Teddy.
He went to Man Utd and he won fuck all!
Shame the twat had to spoil it a year later though.

The Rubettes with the lead singer miming to Paul DaVinci's (not convinced that's his real name) vocal on Sugar Baby Love.
If I could get lucky I'd secede from the states
I'd buy the country at an incredible rate

Remember seeing a performance on Totp2 some years back. They went for the classic Hi-de-Hi yellow coat/flat cap combo look. Not sure if they’re miming here?Arty Morty wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 4:33 pm The Rubettes with the lead singer miming to Paul DaVinci's (not convinced that's his real name) vocal on Sugar Baby Love.

Re: Long forgotten British pop acts
Don’t think this performance has aged too well. Noosha looks like an old man in drag.
A few other things to look out for
- Guitar player using that plastic pipe thingy made popular by Peter Frampton, on the solo
- Band member looking remarkably like that bloke in 10cc
- Other band members looking like your mates dad (depending on your age), when you were young
- Audience members looking for the camera trying to get their faces on telly.
They really need to bring back Top of the Pops.
