I know what you mean, Sid. Travelling aboard for the festive season is eye-wateringly expensive these days, and the same goes for Christmas in general if you're not careful. However, the
idea of going away for Christmas appeals to me more and more as I'm getting older, especially since I don't have children and I'm not particularly close to my siblings and their kids (they wouldn't miss me, let's put it that way.)
You're right about commercialisation and excess. Traditions like sending cards are dying. For most people, the religious aspect of Christmas is almost non-existent. We're all guilty of not recognising it in one way or another. Each year, I make an effort to attend at least one carol service with religious readings.
