I said they have the right to comment. Just as we have the right to comment. Not sure which part of that you fail to understand.

They have the right to comment but it'll always be open to ridicule. So that also applies to you commenting about what is happening in the USA then.
Personally, I don't see why any comments should be open to ridicule, just because it relates to what is going on in another country, particularly from those who are doing it are from that country.
Are you from the USA BTW?

Littlejohn and Neil are paid professionals in journalism whose literature is widely available to the public, so they have a particular care of duty to be more familiar with their subject matter.Zambo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 6:59 pm To Tick You said

It's rather different than posting content on a random Internet message board.

Re: Neil nails it
Principle the same. No one should face ridicule, based on them expressing an opinion about what happens in a country where they are from. Well that and because those ridiculing have a problem with the opinion.

Not the same principle. Neil and Littlejohn have professional commitments to fulfil. Internet message board posters don't.
So the ridicule for the former holds greater weight. People on forums can ridicule each other as much as they intend anyway, but it's a different game when it comes to the field of journalism. Journalists are held to higher standards and can expect derision when they fall short of them.

Richard W. Littlejohn is a famous broadcaster and journalist in the U.K., where he currently writes for the Daily Mail. Although many of his newspaper columns are devoted to life and society in England, Littlejohn lives for much of the year in the United States.

He spends much of the year writing from a gated mansion in Florida, and admitted in a recent column that, when he is in Britain, he rarely leaves the house

I see nothing wrong with people who decide to live abroad, having opinions on the state of the country they were born in.
However, in the case of Littlejohn, when he scores not one, but a dozen own goals, he deserves all the shit he gets.
